The war in Ukraine poses extreme risks to civilians, in particular to women and children. More than 2.5 million people have been displaced by the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation. This figure could rise to as many as 4 million. Among these are around 80,000 women expected to give birth in the next three months.

FIGO has released a statement calling for the immediate safe passage of women and children in Ukraine. We are asking our member societies to show their support by becoming a co-signatory to this statement. You can read the statement and show your support here

In partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), European Board & College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (EBCOG) and NGOs working in Ukraine and surrounding countries, FIGO is raising funds to support the essential health care needs of pregnant women affected by the conflict.

All donations will go towards the purchase of emergency medical supplies and care packages that will be sent to Ukraine and surrounding countries.

FIGO, EBCOG and the obstetricians and gynaecologists around the world we represent recognise the ever-present risks of childbirth to mother and infant. These risks are dramatically higher when a mother is under siege, in war or displaced. In turn, this significantly increases the possibility of death or injury to the mother, baby, or both.
